Are you familiar with the name Jochebed? Her life is often overlooked and overshadowed by that of her famous son. But without her trust in God and tremendous sacrifice, her son’s life had the potential to be very short lived. God used her role as a mother, love for her child, and unwavering faith to help prepare the way for the deliverance of God’s people from Egypt.
Jochebed was a Hebrew slave woman from the tribe of Levi. She was married to a Levite man named Amram, and together they had two children, Miriam and Aaron. Now the Israelites had grown exceedingly numerous despite the oppression and ruthlessness of the Egyptians. It was during this time Pharaoh decreed that every Hebrew boy who was born must be thrown into the Nile, but every girl could live. As luck would have it (or God’s providence) Jochebed soon discovered she was expecting her third child…
Jochebed had nine months to ponder and fret over the sex of her unborn baby. Without the use of modern day ultrasounds, she had no way of knowing whether her baby would be a boy or a girl. I can only imagine the sleepless nights as she laid awake and perhaps prayed God would have mercy and the baby would be a girl. Oh, how much easier that would have made life for her and her family. God does not promise us a trial free life though. In fact, he promises the opposite.
…And Jochebed gave birth to a son.

Don’t let it! Don’t let Satan rob you of your peace and joy. The Bible tell us to cast our anxieties on him. Yes, we will have trials. Yes, our children will have trials. But most importantly we have a perfect God who loves us and his plans are good.
