Day 10: Lessons from Jochebed: Exceeding Expectations

Picture the scene:  You are Jochebed.  Your heart feels as if it has shattered into a million little fragments.  How do you go back to life as before?  You knew this day was coming.  You knew this was God’s plan, but still the heartache is almost too much to bear.

Suddenly you hear your daughter’s familiar footsteps running up from behind you.  Turning around, she practically knocks you down as she runs into your arms, red faced and out of breath.

“What? What is it, Miriam?!”  You see the flurry of emotions spreading across her face as you wait with guarded anticipation for her to spit out the news that is attempting to burst forth.

“Pharaoh’s….daughter….”she squeaks out.

“What?! What about Pharaoh’s daughter?!” Your voice raising louder than you intended.

“I spoke with her!  She sent me to find a woman to nurse him!”

“Wait…what…what are you trying to say?”

“Come with me!  Hurry!  She wants you to take care of him!”

Overcome with relief, joy, disbelief, excitement, and a whirlwind of a thousand other emotions, you sink to your knees; giving praise to the Lord! Your child has been spared, just as He promised!

After composing yourself, you follow your daughter’s lead as she introduces you to Pharaoh’s daughter as a local Hebrew wet nurse.  As she places your child back into your arms, she discusses the terms of the arrangement.  She would like you to take the “orphaned” child home, nurse him, and when he is weaned, bring him to the palace for he is to be raised as her son.  Oh, and by the way…she’ll pay you!

How great is our God!  He exceeds our expectations!  He makes a way when there seems to be no way!  He takes what the devil means for evil and uses it for good!  Have faith!  Trust God with your child!  Step back and watch his marvelous plans unfold right before your eyes!

  1. If you haven’t yet trusted God with your child, surrender him/her and your plans for them over to your Heavenly Father.
  2. Rest in the comfort and peace of knowing that God’s “got this”!

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.”  So the woman took the child and nursed him. Exodus 2:9

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good…Genesis 50:20

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.  Ephesians 3:20
