Peace Poured Out

When my children were little, they LOVED bath time! It didn’t matter if it was day or night, toys or without, bubbles or bubble less. A warm dip in the tub could make a grumpy baby happy, washing away tears and replacing them with giggles. In fact, I had one little who every night after dinner would strip off her clothes and start yelling, “Baf-time,” while running towards the tub.

As their mother, I would set the mat on the tile floor, knowing it would be soaked before everything was said and done. I’d plug the drain and begin to adjust the water temperature until it was not too hot, not too cold, but just right. And then after a few inches of delightfully warm water accrued in the bottom, I would gently set my child down into the tub where they would splash and play to their heart’s content.

I used to love to sit there and tenderly watch over them, amused by the joy they found in such a simple moment. One particular fond memory is when I would leave the faucet running while they played. Each of my babies were enthralled by the flowing water and would try and “catch it”. Attempt after attempt, no matter how hard they tried, when they opened up their chubby fist, no water would be found. And so they would try again, only to have the same result over and over.

Peace is much like water pouring out of a faucet; sometimes it seems impossible to grab ahold of. We try and try and yet even after our best efforts we are left empty-handed. But that’s just it…We aren’t meant to CATCH peace. Peace is GIVEN to us by the Lord when we are still and sit in his presence. Then peace can flow over you, renewing and refreshing you.

“ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Today, turn off the TV for a little while. Set down the phone. Disconnect and unplug from all that is going in the world and spend a little time splashing around in the joy of the Lord! Let him pour out his peace into your life.
